The anticipation is rising and HarmonyOS 4 could bring us some new user experience that we’re waiting for. Inputs coming from Weibo reveal that Huawei is working on HarmonyOS 4 and it could be the major launch version for Huawei devices.

According to the information, HarmonyOS 4 will come with major design changes and new features that will improve the user experience. Meanwhile, we’re also seeing inputs about HarmonyOS 3.1, which could debut along with the Huawei P60 series. Also, it could be taken as a major improvement version over HarmonyOS 3.0.

Therefore, HarmonyOS 4 deserves to be a major upgrade to complete the cycle.

HarmonyOS 4 Major

Skipped at Last year:

At Huawei Developer Conference 2021, Huawei launched HarmonyOS 3 and began testing the developer preview. On the other hand, the tech maker launched it in public in July 2022 for smartphones. At HDC 2022, Huawei didn’t launch HarmonyOS 4, yet it unveiled various services and HarmonyOS 3.1.

The stationed launch of a second HarmonyOS version suits the motive here, because, Huawei has decided to put two operating system versions among consumers.

One will be a substantial upgrade and the second one will be major. Therefore, HarmonyOS 3.1 could be seen in the Huawei P60 series and HarmonyOS 4 in Huawei Mate 60 series, which is slated to launch in the second half of this year.

As for now, Huawei has not revealed the official details about HarmonyOS 3.1 or HarmonyOS 4’s features and user interface.

HarmonyOS:

Unveiled at HDC 2019, Huawei first introduced HarmonyOS in smart screens, and then the company opened it for various platforms. By harnessing the power of shared APIs and cross-device support, HarmonyOS could provide an all-around user experience.

For example, you can connect and control all of your smart home and IoT devices right from your smartphone. Various industry partners are using HarmonyOS to build new devices and helping to grow the HarmonyOS ecosystem.

HarmonyOS 3.1 was initially announced during Huawei Developer Conference 2022. However, the company only launched the developer beta version and promised to test the public beta in January 2023.

According to the HarmonyOS 3.1 roadmap, Huawei planned to launch this new HMOS around March and April. This window is also decided to unveil the new P60 series.

Hence, it makes sense for the Chinese tech make to reveal both of these amazing products. It will also correlate with consumers who want to get some new software features specially designed for the Huawei P60 series.

Currently, Huawei has not revealed the features of HarmonyOS 3.1 but we are yet to participate in the beta activity or its smartphone version.

Also, the tech company has not announced such information via the official channels, which we are eagerly waiting for.

The HarmonyOS 3.1 developed preview changelog has new meta capability, web service, document preview, and other important service improvements. This new HarmonyOS 3.1 dev build also has new user interface APIs and development environment capabilities.

Huawei P60:

A recent report reveals that Huawei has finalized the P60 series for launch. And the company is preparing a strategy for its promotion, sales, and consumer interactions.

Meanwhile, a rear TPU cover leak has revealed the camera desing of this upcoming P series smartphone. Showing a new kind of camera layout featuring three openings, which remains ambiguous for the time being.

Zhengtong Electronics has made a financial payment scenario and launched a payment password keyboard device ZT925 equipped with OpenHarmony, the open-source HarmonyOS operating system.

According to the information, Huawei and OpenAtom foundation are working together to increase industry partners to adopt the open-source HarmonyOS named OpenHarmony.

The ZT925 payment device has also passed the OpenHarmony 3.1 Release version compatibility evaluation and received the OpenHarmony ecosystem product compatibility certificate.

Adding to this, the device can be equipped with different forms of master devices by applying OpenHarmony’s distributed soft bus technology, so as to adapt to different application scenarios.

The ZT925 electronic payment device integrates financial components such as a password keyboard and a contactless card reader to form a minimal secure payment suite that provides financial payment functions externally.

With OpenHarmony 3.1 Release version, the device has its own distributed networking capabilities. It can automatically discover and complete identity authentication and automatic networking with the main device and expand the financial payment feature of the main device.

After the ZT925 and the main device are powered on respectively, they form a star-shaped network with a stable topology according to their respective preset policies.

HarmonyOS zt925 openharmony

The user handles the business on the main device and transfers the transaction information to the ZT925 through the OpenHarmony soft bus technology in the financial payment transaction link. The indicator light of the remote terminal ZT925 starts to flash and enters the state of financial business processing, responding to the customer’s card swiping and password input on the ZT925.

So far, the main device and ZT925 have completed the payment transaction through the remote linking process. This time, the terminal product makes payment-related security components and general components into independent components, so that the terminal form fits better with the scene and improves the overall portability.

The terminal equipment manufacturers further divide labor, professional security payment manufacturers focus on the development of security components, industry manufacturers focus on general components and business experience, and aggregate different security components through specified strategies to form a super terminal on the merchant side. This contributes to Improving the payment experience and security.

More importantly, for the update of the mainline version of the terminal operating system, the terminals interconnected through the OpenHarmony soft bus only need to do differentiated security certification to quickly iterate industry equipment.

Traditional financial terminals use core boards and extended backplanes to assemble security components such as PIN pads and common components such as display screens and cameras, which cannot well meet the fragmented needs of the industry.

If the scenario needs to add a display screen, it will involve the change of the whole machine. Now, financial components such as PIN pads and card readers are made into independent payment security suites, and the financial part is decoupled.

The OpenHarmony soft bus technology is equipped with different forms of the main equipment to jointly carry and display financial services and help the development of financial services.

OpenHarmony soft bus technology on financial terminals, Zhengtong Electronics starts from the practicality, reliability, security, and scalability of financial terminals, improves the business support capabilities and intelligence level of financial terminals, and meets the needs of fragmented industries.

Furthermore, Zhengtong Electronics has enriched the OpenHarmony soft bus control technology by introducing customized networking strategies to improve the efficiency of financial terminal reconstruction.

At HDC 2022, Huawei revealed various HarmonyOS technologies including details on HarmonyOS 3.1 and HarmonyOS 4, meanwhile, here we are connecting these dots with the upcoming Huawei P60 and Mate 60 series.

Huawei P60 and Mate 60 series are reported to launch next year, on the other hand, the company also gave us a hint of this happening by launching HarmonyOS 3.1 at HDC 2022 and retaining HarmonyOS 4 for next year.

Tradition:

Huawei had a tradition of launching two flagships in a year including a P and Mate series smartphone. In 2021, Huawei broke the tradition due to the lack of required assets to build new devices. It only launched the P50 series in order to at least remain in the latest flagship race.

This year, the Huawei Mate 50 series marked its appearance but there was no P60. In the past two years, Huawei launched only two flagships.

In terms of software, the P50 series comes pre-boxed with HarmonyOS 2, while the Mate 50 ships with HarmonyOS 3.

Inputs reveal that the company will resume dual flaghip in year tradition from 2023. If it’s true, then we could see the Huawei P60 series packed with HarmonyOS 3.1 because the software will launch in the first quarter of 2023.

On the other hand, Huawei Mate 60 could launch in the fourth quarter of 2023, while, HarmonyOS 4 will also be announced around the date during HDC 2023.

Currently, Huawei has not revealed the smartphone-related features of HarmonyOS 3 but we can expect a major improvement in performance since it comes with a new OpenHarmony 3.2 base.

Furthermore, there’s a mention of an improved system connectivity scenario that is specially designed for HarmonyOS 3.1. Therefore, we could also see new additions in Super Device. Still, there’s no graphical release has been detected so far.

HarmonyOS 4 is currently unknown and there is no specific announcement made on this HarmonyOS version. More on this could only be known in 2023.

HarmonyOS 3.1 roadmap is here and we could see that this software will rollout developer preview builds in November this year. Followed by Beta testing in January 2023, and public release in March 2023.

Yeah, it rings the bell for us, as we can assume that the Huawei P60 series will be ready to amaze us with a new software version such as HarmonyOS 3.1. On the other hand, HarmonyOS 4 will be promoted with the Huawei Mate 60 series.

To be mentioned, Huawei has already achieved 320 million installations on smartphones, tablets, wearables and third-party devices.

HarmonyOS is a multi-kernel operating system designed and developed by Huawei and its open-source code was later donated to Open Atom Foundation. The software continues to surprise us with new features and additions that are hard to find in other mobile software such as Android and iOS.

Currently, Huawei is seeding HarmonyOS 3 for its smartphones and other devices. But now, we’re excited to see what HarmonyOS 3.1 and we’ll keep you posted with future developments.
