Android 14 is the next software version for the Android ecosystem. On February 8, Google stepped ahead to begin the development of this major upgrade with the first developer beta.

Google has released the roadmap for the development, beta testing, platform stability, and the final release of Android 14, which reveals meet the launch of Huawei HarmonyOS 4 later in the second half of 2023.

The first developer preview is already out for the Pixel devices. However, Google could open early access to other smartphone makers such as OnePlus by April when the open beta campaign kicks off.

As mentioned by the Android company, Android 14 is projected to reach platform stability by the end of July. But there’s still a possibility of these milestone timelines to delay, similar to last year.

Android 14 development milestone

For your information, the Android 14 developer preview will be a very useful and early gift to the developer community. It will pave a way for the app devs to know more about the upcoming APIs and app features ahead of the final launch.

Looking into the developer preview features, Android 14 promises to improve productivity, enhances performance, improvements to security, and privacy, and bring new customizations.

Yes, there are new tweaks and changes made over Android 12, while there are more that will be visible as the development progress further. Throughout this phase, these developers (and later users) will help to fix bugs and make improvements to the Android 14 source code.

HarmonyOS 4:

Aside from the Android 14 developer beta, Huawei is preparing for the HarmonyOS 3.1 rollout but the company is working on HarmonyOS 4 as a major release for the next generation of Huawei devices. Despite being ignored in the global market, Huawei Mate 20 series users are getting fair treatment in China via HarmonyOS 3 upgrade but the phone lineup is under beta activity and getting a new software update.

huawei mate 20 new HarmonyOS 3 beta

Update notes:

Due to version restrictions, you first need to upgrade to version 3.0.0.73 first. Otherwise, you won’t receive the latest update. During the beta testing, you can enable a user experience improvement plan, which will help developers to improve the software.

This update won’t erase your phone’s data but it is still recommended that you back up all important data to your PC or cloud before downloading the latest version, and confirm that the backup content is complete.

To be mentioned, some third-party mobile apps may not be compatible with HarmonyOS. Therefore, it is recommended that you try to update the apps to the latest version via AppGallery.

Following the upgrade, the phone may produce heat, lag, or slow charging. This is caused by some self-optimization and adaptation actions performed by the system after the upgrade. Be assured that it will recover by itself after some time.

Your phone needs to have 8GB of internal storage and the installation package will be automatically deleted after the update without taking up storage space.

This update also supports version rollback, which can be rolled back to the official stable version of HarmonyOS 2 through Huawei HiSuite (Note: Some government and enterprise customized versions cannot be rolled back to the mobile assistant due to special customization, please upgrade carefully).

The rollback operation will erase all data, please backup all important data to the PC before rollback or the cloud, and confirm that the backup content is complete and valid.

After the rollback upgrade is completed, the phone will restart. Please wait patiently for about 10 minutes. After the rollback is successful, the default theme of HarmonyOS 2 will be displayed on the home screen of the phone.

Huawei is rolling out a brand new HarmonyOS 3 beta firmware build for the Huawei P30 series that comes with important system stability improvements for these legendary smartphones.

According to the information, the new system stability HarmonyOS 3 beta update for the Huawei P30 series comes with build version 3.0.0.80 upgrading from HarmonyOS 3.0.0.72. This software update is rolling out in batches and may take some time to reach all of the consumers.

Last month, Huawei P30 and Mate 20 series began testing HarmonoyOS 3 in the Chinese market, this allows the phone users to get a brand new user experience along with new features. As for now, Huawei initiated the rollout exclusively for the P30 series.

There are plenty of new additions such as smart folders, better animations, as well as a bunch of new optimizations made to the performance. On the flip side, the company will allow you to experience better security and privacy than the past HarmonyOS.

Huawei P30 and P30 Pro users can download this new software update via Settings > System & updates and then tap on Software updates and then tap on CHECK FOR UPDATES to check for the latest firmware version.

The rollout details show that this upgrade is out for the following models:

  • P30 – ELE-AL00
  • P30 – ELE-TL00
  • P30 Pro – VOG-AL00
  • P30 Pro – VOG-AL10
  • P30 Pro – VOG-TL00

Huawei P30 series HarmonyOS 3 system stability

These models are open to upgrade to the latest HarmonyOS 3 version. However, the company has not opened the HarmonyOS 3 public beta activity, which may take some time.

  • Due to version restrictions, you need to upgrade to HarmonyOS version 3.0.0.72 first, otherwise, you won’t receive a new version.
  • During the early beta activity, you can share the user experience improvement activity (path: Settings-System and Update-User Experience Improvement Plan), which is convenient for engineers to conduct system and application analysis, fault diagnosis, etc., and continuously improve the quality of the version.
  • This update will not delete your data, but it is still recommended that you back up all important data to your PC or cloud before upgrading, and confirm that the backup content is complete and valid, otherwise there may be a risk of data loss.
  • Because some third-party applications may not be compatible with HarmonyOS, the third-party application may not work properly after the update. It is recommended that you try to update the application to the latest version in Huawei AppGallery.
  • After completing the update procedure, the phone may experience heat, lag, or slow charging. This is caused by some self-optimization and adaptation actions performed by the system after the upgrade.
  • The update requires you to have at least 8GB of internal storage to store the OTA package. The installation package will be automatically deleted after the update without taking up storage space.

WhatsApp is releasing a new beta version for Android users that brings a shortcut feature to disappearing messages. As the term suggests, it will let users prioritize their chats and messages in the application.

According to the latest info, the unique shortcut feature for disappearing messages is rolling out with the 2.22.25.11 build version. Being a beta iteration, it is only available to a handful of consumers at the moment.

Earlier this month, the company created a separate section for disappearing messages. Eventually, this addition helped the users to operate the corresponding messages and chats effectively in the app.

Besides, it enabled the users to pin up the old and new chats in the disappearing section. As a result, it becomes easy to sort and organize the main chats and phone numbers as per convenience.

Now to make the feature more accessible, WhatsApp is adding a new disappearing messages shortcut for Android users. This feature will reside in the Manage Storage section with the “tools to save space” label. Further, it is capable to control storage as well as maintain privacy in the chats.

How the shortcut feature is useful?

In case you are thinking about how the feature will help with storage management – the shortcut tool can delete the media content automatically after reaching a specific time limit.

You can set the time limit accordingly under the privacy section or in the chat info. In terms of disappearing texts, the feature will inspect your priority and will shift the “more important chats” over to other numbers. Thus, the respective feature is quite interesting to use.

Availability of the Shortcut feature

As of now, the feature is only available to a limited amount of Android users. However, the company will push off the shortcut element to more consumers with the upcoming updates.

Meanwhile, users can also get this beta feature along with the following build versions:

  • WhatsApp 2.22.24.27
  • WhatsApp 2.22.25.8
  • WhatsApp 2.22.25.10

So WhatsApp Android users, keep installing the latest builds to experience new and amazing pinches of the app.

The Chinese tech maker is still expanding this flagship in the global market and it comes packed with EMUI 13. Yeah, it is the first Huawei smartphone to bring it pre-installed.

However, EMUI 13 is also taken as a major selling point for the smartphone because there are a number of new additions.

December:

Last year, Huawei began EMUI 12 beta testing in December in European markets. But this year could be different as we’ve already passed through 25 days of November 2022.

Cutting to the chase, we now may have to wait until the next month (December) to get started with EMUI 13.

In a recent reply to a Twitter user, Huawei said it has not announced the EMUI 13 roadmap. There was no further statement made about the release though.

Features:

Huawei EMUI 13 comes with a variety of additions and improvements over EMUI 13, and these reflect on the user interface, animations, and user experience.

EMUI 13 will get you new service widgets for instant content, a feature to manage all of your smart devices, and more.

Beta and Software update:

Despite all of these speculations and insights, we suggest you keep an eye on the beta project via the BETA application. Here you can read our EMUI beta program step-by-step guide to check for EMUI 13 beta, instead of waiting for Huawei.

On the other hand, make sure that you are on the latest EMUI version to participate in the beta testing program. To check for the new firmware, simply go to Settings > System & updates and follow the screen with Software update instructions.
