Last year, Huawei announced its latest Mate series flagship – Huawei Mate 30 series with 88-degree Horizon display, new Kirin 990 series chipsets, new quad-camera including the new halo ring design.

The halo ring is a simple design aesthetic that outlines the camera setup on the rear side of the device but it seems like Huawei has planned to make it functional.

According to LetsGoDigital, Huawei has filed a design patent application at WIPO (World Intellectual Property Office) in mid-2019. The patent shows a smartphone with quad camera design surrounded by a halo ring and support for touchscreen actions.

The design patent has a total of 15 drawings including a color image revealing 5 different features, which looks absolutely amazing.

The halo ring around the camera can be used as a touch screen interface with Tap and Rotate gestures.

For example, if you receive a call, you will see the caller information on the ring as well as options to receive or stop the call and also for checking an unread SMS.

Supported Actions:

  • Volume control
  • Camera zoom adjustment
  • Flip the page or maybe image (Gallery)
  • Open message
  • Show clock (such as AOD widget)
  • Alarm alert

For instance, the ring design of the Mate 30 device is not too wide but sufficient to perform such tasks.

The design shown in the image is very interesting and adds an extra layer of innovation to the phone that we truly want to go into a live device.

Taking a fact that the rear design is very similar to the Huawei Mate 30 series, Huawei could use it in the Huawei Mate 40 series that will launch in the second half of 2020. However, there’s no official confirmation available about the production of this design patent.

According to the information coming from Weibo tipster Classmateguan, Huawei Nova 11 has started testing with a flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ chipset.

This design went popular after it was originated in iPhone 14 series and later introduced in various Chinese devices. The wide punch hole is likely to use a dual camera system, one for selfies and another for the depth of field. Also, it could be utilized in the Pro model rather than the standard.

The phone is using flagship Snapdragon 8+ fully unlocked at high frequency, which could contribute to power consumption. Compared to this, Huawei Nova 10 series went on with Snapdragon 778 for Pro and non-Pro variants.

Furthermore, the camera desing has been rearranged, there is a large ring placed on the top, consisting of a main camera. It was followed by two cameras vertically including a periscope camera. To be mentioned, the camera design is cylindrical similar to the Nova 10 lineup.

As a new phone, Huawei will bring up XMAGE imaging technology with Nova 11 devices.
