After the events of the U.S. ban, Huawei had to reduce its capacity of building new smartphones, which result in low yield and sales, and now, Xiaomi claims that it took over 50 million of Huawei’s users.

During the Xiaomi Investment Day, Lu Weibing, President of Xiaomi Group said that Huawei has lost over 80 million smartphone users, of which, Xiaomi took over 50 million.

This is quite a big statement made by the head of the Chinese phone maker as Huawei was forced to leave the market due to the restrictions on manufacturing.

After not meeting the market requirements the share of Huawei’s smartphone market declined severely in both the Chinese and global markets. While other smartphone makers are the ones that got most of the benefits.

Xiaomi and Huawei

From the rest, Apple took over 20 million users and Honor grabbed 10 million, which accounts for an overall 80 million Huawei users.

According to the data revealed by Canalys, the global smartphone market ranked Samsung first and Apple second, which has increased by 22 percent and 19 percent respectively. While Xiaomi declined to 13 percent.

Aside from Apple and Samsung, other smartphone maker has declined. On this matter, Xiaomi’s president said that the decline in his firm is related to various reasons such as currency depreciation, chips from shortage to surplus, and intensified competition, the global mobile phone market will decline by 12% in 2022, of which the Chinese market will decline by 13%.

Why not?

It was an opportunity for all of the smartphone companies with an open opportunity to grab Huawei’s market share and it fell directly into their lap without doing anything.

Samsung has decided to remain behind the line and announced its failure to install the Satellite Communication feature in the recently released Galaxy S23 but Honor doesn’t seem to repeat this mistake, as it has now a certificate to use capability in its smartphones.

According to the information, China National Intellectual Property Administration AKA CNIPA has published an application filed by Honor. It is now authorized and revealed the company’s approval for “an electric device with integrated Beidou short message feature”.

This confirms that Honor is ready to debut this satellite communication in smartphones. However, an exact date or model has not been disclosed at the moment. Honor Magic 5 series will launch on February 27 at MWC 2023 Barcelona and it’s suitable for such technology in Honor’s campaign.

Honor satellite communication

The satellite communication technology allows you to send short text messages with China’s Beiduo satellite. However, Apple is using Globalstar satellite services in the U.S. If required, the phone will let you send a short message when you don’t have a mobile network at all. This feature comes into play in any emergency use case.

Huawei was the first to launch satellite communication in the industry and the company has already planned to launch the second generation feature to this satellite-connected smartphone feature.

On February 1, Samsung launched its latest flagship, Galaxy S23. Still, it doesn’t bring a trendy and futuristic feature called satellite communication AKA SOS satellite emergency message, on this front, Samsung failed, while it’s a win for Huawei and Apple.

Before we pick a shovel and dig deep into this matter, let’s take a brief look at satellite communication. The feature let you send a text message (one way) to a receiver via satellite. The feature could be used in an emergency when the mobile network is not available at all. However, its availability is limited.

Now back to TM Roh, yep, Samsung’s President and Head of Mobile Experience Business said that the company remains limited because it needs to be matured.

While speaking to CNET, Roh said “When there is the right timing, infrastructure, and the technology [is] ready, then of course for Samsung Galaxy, for our mobile division, we would also actively consider adopting this feature as well,”

He mentioned that satellite communication is one to make the phone better but Samsung is making its own efforts to improve the user experience such as better 5G connectivity.

“I do not believe that is the end-all or be-all of the solutions to ensure peace of mind among users,” he said.

Failed:

There was a time when Samsung used to rush on the lane to win the race for new features. However, this time, even Apple won over the South Korean company to install satellite communication in iPhone 14 series.

We may agree that the technological innovation level of satellite communication is at the initial stage but Samsung’s top brass saying that “it’s not yet ready”, kind of sounds like a “failure”.

Samsung Galaxy

Huawei Mate 50 Pro:

Samsung failed but Huawei continues to innovate technologies such as satellite communication even with grave difficulties originated by the U.S. sanctions. In the face of challenges, Huawei is bringing new features that make a true difference among smartphone consumers.

Moving from the first initial version, Huawei has already planned to install a new satellite communication with the new Mate X3 foldable phone or P60 series. Read more about that in the article below.

Samsung launched its new Galaxy S23 Ultra, the ultra variant from the S23 lineup, as its name says, the phone is the mightiest in terms of camera numbers and it’s time that we compare this flagship with Huawei Mate 50 Pro in terms of numbers and capability.

Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra comes with an HP2 sensor inside a 200-megapixel camera with f/1.7 aperture, the number claims high quality with extra light intake. There are various clips to demonstrate Night/low light photography with a small aperture.

Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra

Let’s see Huawei Mate 50 Pro, aside from that 200-megapixel camera, Samsung S23 Ultra doesn’t stand a chance against Huawei Mate 50 Pro’s ultra aperture camera system. Why? Because Huawei is a customized version of the SONY IMX sensor, specially designed for the Mate 50 Pro smartphone.

Although, Mate 50 Pro is not an Ultra model but it comes with an ultra-large f/1.4 aperture that boasts 24% more light with the RYYB color system.

Huawei Mate 50 flagship

The camera of Mate 50 Pro also provides powerful bokeh shots that really blur the background and highlight the subject with its powerful aperture prowess.

Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra comes with AI-powered image processing APIs and it could make use of that 200 MP camera system but Huawei Mate 50 Pro could perform image refining tasks even better with its new imaging system called XMAGE.

XMAGE fine-tunes colors and textures, creates vivid contrast, and highlights bright and dark areas to create a first-in-hand impression.

Huawei Mate 50 Pro

Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra doesn’t promote the capability to shoot macro but Mate 50 Pro won’t disappoint you, because it has the world’s most powerful macro photography and now a video section that will lead you to the closest to the smallest object in your sight.

Next comes the Ultra wide-angle camera, which counts at 12MP on Galaxy S23 Ultra with f/2.2 aperture and 120-degree field of view. On the other hand, Huawei uses a high-quality 13MP ultra-wide lens to cover all of the group in one picture with identical aperture and FOV.

Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra has dual telephoto cameras, one is a 10MP optical and another is a 10MP periscope. According to the information, these lenses switch automatically.

The periscope camera has a maximum of 10X optical zoom with f/4.9 aperture. On the other hand, Huawei Mate 50 Pro comes with a 64MP Periscope camera that has an f/3.5 aperture camera that could reach a long-long 10X while maintaining the photo quality.

Despite having no access to a 5G chipset, Huawei phones are rumbling over China’s foldable device segment and maintained its lead throughout 2022.

According to the data released by China’s CINNO research, Huawei shipped approx 1.44 million units of foldable display devices. The Chinese tech maker completed this task with a sales growth rate of 132% year over year. However, its market share decreased by 2.8 percent, while still covering over 50% of the overall Chinese market.

This sale count is contributed by the strong sales of the P50 Pocket and Mate X2 Collector’s Edition. Since its launch in December 2021, the Huawei P50 Pocket has been the single-season sales champion of China’s foldable phones market for three consecutive quarters in Q1, Q2, and Q3 of 2022. While the Pocket S jumped to the top sales in the fourth quarter.

Huawei foldable phones 2022

Samsung comes second with a market share of 22.8%, a year-on-year decrease of 9.7 percentage points, Samsung has the largest decline within a year.

OPPO ranked third with a 7.7% market share, up 4.3 percent year over year. Coming to the last three Xiaomi, Vivo, and Honor with a market share of 6.6%, 5.8%, and 5% respectively.

Overall sales of foldable smartphones in China have increased by 144% year over year (YoY) with 2.83 million units shipment throughout the year. This is a massive growth among customers and it continues to rise over quarters.

Nowadays, we’re close to our smartphones than ever and this close partnership could bring some eye fatigue powered by Blue light. However, there’s a feature called Eye comfort that is pre-blended on Huawei EMUI to save your eyes, adding to this, we’ll also compare it with the Samsung One UI counterpart.

Although, smartphone makers are enhancing the display panel for the best quality possible but blue light emissions cannot be stopped.

Digital Eyestrain:

Using devices up close or for long periods can lead to digital eyestrain. Research has shown that when people use computers, laptops, and other digital devices, they tend to blink less often than normal. Fewer blinks can mean less moisture. Digital eyestrain means different things to different people but is generally related to the focusing system of the eyes.

Eye comfort:

A blue light filter decreases the amount of blue light displayed on the screen of the device, which can suppress the production of the sleep-inducing hormone, so filtering it out can help you sleep better. It will also help you to reduce digital eye strain.

Coming to the comparison, both Huawei EMUI and Samsung One UI come with eye comfort features and it’s time that we look into the aspects.

samsung one ui huawei emui eye comfort

Eye Schedule:

The Eye schedule feature allows you to enable/disable eye comfort with start and end time.

All Day:

Once enabled, the feature overlaps the screen for the entire time until you turn it off manually.

Level:

A slider is available on both software that filters out blue light to reduce eye fatigue, you can slide it left or right to increase/reduce the filter strength.

Flicker reduction:

Only Huawei EMUI comes with a flicker reduction feature, and as the name reflects, the option helps you to reduce flickering on the screen. This will affect color balance and auto-brightness control.
