WhatsApp, the most popular instant messaging app is currently working to bring some changes to the privacy section with the version number 2.22.22.5 beta for some Android users.

The app-oriented firm is continuously making efforts to improve its app and provide a better experience to its users. For this, it brings changes in its settings to make it more reliable to use.

A recent report by WABetaInfo suggests that the messaging platform is moving the privacy settings from the Account section to the root. It is doing it so that the users reach the privacy section easily.

What’s new:

As per the changes the privacy settings are now placed within the main WhatsApp settings. The main settings consist of Account, Chats, Notifications, Storage and data, App language, Help and Invite a friend option and now the firm has added Privacy below the Accounts so that users can access it with ease.

Previously, users had to open the main settings of WhatsApp. From here they had to open the Account option to navigate through the Privacy section. But now the company has shifted privacy settings to the root.

Notably, users can identify the update with the new WhatsApp Android version number 2.22.22.5. But some users may also be able to get the same feature after installing the 2.22.22.4 beta build. Users can download the new update from the Google Play beta program.

Although, the changes are currently in the testing procedure and will take some time to roll out for all Android users.

Previous Update:

As per the last update, WhatsApp Android will shortly bring a screenshot blocking feature to all users. Currently, this feature is also rolling out for some beta testers only with the version build 2.22.22.3.

With this new feature, the recipients will be prevented from taking screenshots of the view once images or videos.

WhatsApp is making it possible for desktop users to manage their privacy settings within the system itself. The developers seem to be more concerned about the privacy setting for the users.

The noted point is, users aren’t able to change their privacy settings in the Desktop systems. They have to use smartphones to customize the settings, which is quite hectic to use often.

However, WhatsApp is also customizing the privacy options for smartphone users on iOS and Androids. Related to this, a new “My Contact Except” function is being developed that’ll release soon.

As for the WhatsApp Web/Desktop users, we are seeing back-to-back editions after the multi-device feature. Now, this privacy setting feature will bring more conveniences for the users in the WhatsApp Desktop.

The team is designing a separate privacy window to place the options that are the same as the smartphone users. Below you can check the image preview-

WhatsApp Desktop Privacy Settings:

We can clearly see in the image that users can change their privacy settings for Lats Seen, Profile, About, Group, and Blocked contacts within the system. Once this feature will be available, there will be no need for users to check smartphones.

Besides, you can also see that WhatsApp has also initiated a new beta program for desktop users. It’ll allow them to be a part of this beta activity and help the developers to bring more modifications to this application.

However, it is in the development phase and will roll out with the future update. Thereby, it might be possible to have more features in the final release.

Previous WhatsApp Update:

In the previous edition, WhatsApp has rolled out the Message rating function with the Android 2.21.22.7 beta update. It allows users to rate a particular message received from business accounts.

Furthermore, WhatsApp cannot see its content and who rated that message. The feedback is saved as purely anonymous with end-to-end encrypted messages. Overall, all ratings help businesses improve their messages to customers.

Since WhatsApp was fully owned by Facebook, it has announced the new Terms of Service or Privacy Policy, which shows that the user to share their data not only with Facebook but also with associated third-party producers to data analysis, as well as with Facebook Payments.

As stated in the new conditions, which will come into force starting from February 8th, the information shared will be used to improve the offer of Facebook and its partners’ services.

After the new terms of service, WhatsApp users have started leaving this instant messaging platform in concern to data security. And these new terms give the opportunity for other social apps like Telegram, Signal, and more to grown-up.

Due to this, WhatsApp decided to postpone the new privacy policy in order to clarify first before implementation till May 15. Also, it has spent the past several months explaining the pros and cons of new terms and there is nothing to worried about users’ chats and calls, as they are really safe and end-to-end encrypted.

Still, some WhatsApp users didn’t change their decisions and begun shifting to other messaging applications available in the market with more privacy and data security.

Telegram and Signal grow unexpectedly, due to the new WhatsApp policies:

According to the Sensor Tower data, During the first month of the year, there were 64 million new Telegram downloads and 51 million Signal downloads. In the following months, the download of these apps was decreased a lot.

However, with the incredible growth of Telegram and Signal, WhatsApp continues to maintain its popularity in the world and reaching 172 million downloads even in this situation.

It means that the new Terms and Services of WhatsApp are not bad privacy practices and the majority of users have already accepted and understand the updated privacy policy, which indicates that WhatsApp didn’t lose so many users.

If you have still questions in your mind regarding privacy and what will happen after May 15, you can check the below article.

We are living in an era of technology and promoting digitalization. So, the privacy factor is very important nowadays. Huawei in its latest OS skin EMUI 11 focused to improve the privacy and security of users and comes with new security standards and privacy features based on three major factors:

  • Safe Sharing
  • Access Controls
  • Note Lock

Let’s take a look at them in detail:

Safe Sharing: Before sending a picture, you can choose to delete sensitive information, such as the time, location, and camera specifications. This allows you to share life experiences while keeping your data private or away from prying eyes.

Access Controls: With personalized settings, your total control over your information is in your hands, and can you can choose when to allow apps to access the phone’s microphone, camera, and location data — whether this is for a single instance, or for all future times that the app is in use.

Note Lock: Store your most treasured information in a secure encrypted vault, with Note Lock, which requires identity verification by using fingerprint, face, password, and pin lock to access.

Huawei called on the United States to drop the “loser’s attitude” and once again rubbished U.S. allegations its gear could be used by China for spying.

“The U.S. government has a loser’s attitude. It wants to smear Huawei because it cannot compete against Huawei,” Guo Ping, rotating chairman of Huawei, said on Friday.

Huawei announced record financial results for 2018, net profit jumped 25%

“I hope the U.S. can adjust its attitude,” Guo said at a press briefing that was attended by more than 100 journalists from across the world, reports Reuters.

The company has said the spying concerns are unfounded.

Spying would be equal to suicide,” said Song Liuping, Huawei’s chief legal officer.

We have no intention of committing suicide.

Huawei derived 48.4% of its business from overseas markets in 2018, versus 49.5% a year earlier.

The company’s fastest-growing region was Europe, Middle East and Africa with a growth of 24.3%, followed by the Americas with a growth of 21.3%.

Huawei has repeatedly denied allegations that it would be willing to spy on behalf of the Chinese government and has said it takes privacy and security seriously.

In its earnings report the company said that “cybersecurity and user privacy protection are at the absolute top of [its] agenda.”

The company’s rotating chairman Guo Ping admits that criticism from the US government has caused “a certain amount of trouble” for the company, but he is keen to downplay these concerns.

He likens the US to a rude dinner party guest. “We Chinese would say that they don’t mind their table manners,” Guo said, “I feel very sorry for these so-called gentlemen.”

The latest news came on Thursday when the UK rebuked it for failing to fix long-standing security flaws in its mobile network equipment and revealed new “significant technical issues”.
