As of the first month of 2023, Huawei has a variety of smartwatches that are already launched among consumers but it seems like there’s one new unique smartwatch lineup that could soon make its debut.

According to the inputs, Huawei has listed a mysterious new smartwatch lineup on the Huawei Health app with model – AOD-H1. First, we thought of being the upcoming Huawei Watch GT 4 or Watch 4 Series but there’s no confirmation found on the Huawei Health app.

Then a founding revealed that it may not be one of those, instead, Huawei could plan a whole new smartwatch lineup with brand new features.

How?

B19 is the consistent code name of all Huawei smartwatches, for example:

  • SGA-B19 for BUDS
  • AND-B19 for Cyber
  • MIL-B19 for GT 3
  • RUN-B19 for GT Runner

And this doesn’t include the mainstream lineup.

Huawei’s former subsidiary Honor has always used B39 and B19 Example: MUS-B19 corresponds to GS3, and HBE-B39 corresponds to MagicWatch.

Huawei new smartwatch lineup

AOD:

So, AOD-H1 could be an Always on Display (AOD) dedicated smartwatch lineup? Probably, as the industry already has such smart wearables that support this display-oriented technology. However, there’s some room for high battery life and new display tech that could drive consumers’ attention, such as high resolution.

Or it could be a high-end outdoor smartwatch ready for a certain type of user. On the flip side, it may be a new smart band. Yes, possibly but not certain.

Past Launches:

Over the past year, Huawei has done a lot of experiments in the world of smartwatches such as Watch GT Cyber, which brings detachable dial functionality. The Huawei Watch Buds lets you store two wireless earbuds inside the watch face and you can flip it open just like an earbuds case to house those earphones.

Watch GT Runner is a prime example of fulfilling a specific type of consumer filled with lots of tracking exercises.

For now, there’s no official announcement available about the AOD-H1 but we’ll keep you posted.

Despite a long-standing issue with its changelog, Google keeps on sending new and multiple Play Store versions to Android users including the 34.0.13, which recently began to release.

Google Play Store 34.0.13 is currently in the expansion stage for Android devices and it may take some to reach all of the users.

Purchase approval:

Earlier this week, Google added a new parent control feature to Play Store that will allow parents to add purchase approval for their children.

According to the information, the feature will allow children to send a purchase request for the family manager account to approve it. Similar to app notification and the parent could then choose whether to approve it or not.

The approval covers paid apps and in-app purchases. Once received, the family manager could tap on the notification to process the payment request. The payment could be made through on-screen payment options as well as Google Play gift cards. In addition, you can check all of the histories in the section.

Real users and bots:

There is input that Google is working on a new way for developers to provide important information to users to detect whether it is run by a bot or a human.

Mishaal Rahman said that Google Play will execute this task by releasing a signal that helps to detect between “likely genuine” and likely non-genuine” traffic based on the presence and volume of Google Play Store activity.

We can simply call it an automated AI based approach to detect activity based on the usage data of a regular Play Store user. However, there’s no official information available from Google on this matter.

Changelog:

There was a change that recently appeared on the Play Store web version, such as the disappearance of the changelog of listed apps.

However, the changelogs are back in their place, as if they were never removed.

China is the fastest country to rollout 5G. But now, the 5G phone market is facing a sharp decline. China Academy of Information and Communications Technology published a report about the smartphone market in November 2022.

This report covers the market statics from January to November 2022. According to the information, the total shipments of phones in the Chinese market reached 244 million units, a year-on-year decline of 23.2%.

Among them, 5G mobile phone shipments were 191 million units, a year-on-year market decline of 20.2%. The total 5G accounted for 78.3% of mobile phone shipments in the same period.

From January to November 2022, there was a total of 381 new models released. It is a year-on-year decline of 10.8%, of which, 202 are 5G phones and it’s also a year-on-year decline of 0.5%, accounting for 53.0% of the number of new models of mobile phones on the market during the last year.

5G phone market decline

Looking at the domestic and overseas companies’ composition. From January to November 2022, Chinese brand shipments equaled 207 million units, a year-on-year decline of 24.9%, accounting for 84.8% of mobile phone shipments during the same period.

On the other hand, domestic players launched a total of 346 new models, a year-on-year decline of 10.8% %, accounting for 90.8% of the number of new models of mobile phones launched in the same period.

looking at smartphone development. During the reported time frame, smartphone shipments were 237 million units, a year-on-year decline of 23.6%, accounting for 97.2% of mobile phone shipments in the same period.

While a total of 318 new models of smartphones were launched, a year-on-year decrease of 11.2%, accounting for 83.5% of the number of new models launched during the same period.

So, it’s decline everywhere.

5G is not the first choice:

4G is a more mature and easily available network as 5G is still under development for a wide and stable availability. More people are considering buying Huawei Mate 50 series because of its features and they’re unbothered by 4G access.

To be mentioned, Huawei staff in stores are providing demos for customers with a live comparison between current 5G and 4G network speed to showcase that Huawei provides better and more stable network performance even without a 5g chipset.

Huawei is currently launching 4G phones due to the lack of important components but the company is still giving a tough competition to 5G enabled phone with latest WiFi and network technologies.

We’re about to complete 2022 and it was a tough year for Huawei but it was also an important one for the Chinese smartphone maker in every aspect whatsoever.

This year, Huawei skipped the Huawei P60 series launch event, which used to happen in the first quarter. However, the issues were related to a scrambled supply chain. After the events of the 2019 U.S. blacklisting, Huawei was under tight scrutiny and facing severe challenges in the supply chain.

Hence, components such as smartphone chipsets became hard to organize for new Huawei devices. In 2022, Huawei readjusted around the current business with Qualcomm and used 4G chips in the latest smartphones.

Since Huawei can no longer print HiSilicon chipsets via chipmakers such as TSMC, the company is relying more on Qualcomm and less on Kirin. The beginning was difficult but Huawei later assured sufficient Snapdragon supplies.

GMS:

Google Mobile Services and Play Store have been a big matter of concern for new smartphone buyers. This year, most consumers knew that Huawei phones no longer support Google apps. On the other hand, customers could now easily determine whether to buy a Huawei phone without any confusion.

EMUI and HarmonyOS:

2022 has proven to be a major year in EMUI and HarmonyOS software rollout history and it brings you the latest features. However, the latest version is yet to rollout for old phones.

Smartwatch and wearables:

Other than smartphones, Huawei is focusing on all of the smart consumer platforms such as tablets, smartwatches, and earbuds. The company continues to innovate for a better user experience and launch new products.

Signs of return:

Progress leads toward a positive state and the progress made over the past year is crucial from all angles. To understand, Huawei is gradually returning shipment records in the Chinese market. A place, where Huawei ruled supreme before the U.S. ban.

2022 was a tough year, the move in market share is gradual but the positive numbers for Huawei are encouraging and it laid out a good foundation for 2023.

Over the past three years, Huawei strengthen its Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) for phones and the company has moved with non Google apps.

In 2019, Huawei was banned by the U.S. and the company had to give up on Google Mobile Services and apps for its new phones. Since then, Huawei has released a variety of new phones all of them running without Google apps.

This year is no different and Huawei launched a variety of new phones including the Mate 50 Pro, Nova 10 series, and more. These phones pack solely the HMS ecosystem. Also powered by the latest EMUI 12 and EMUI 13.

Despite of lacking Google, Huawei has focused on smartphone technologies and fed EMUI with new features. For example, EMUI is better than ever, the EMUI 12 and EMUI 13 come with a brand new user interface.

huawei phone

There are new additions including smart folders, service widgets, better screen content management, optimized performance, and a variety of new security features for a safer user experience.

The app ecosystem matters, that’s why Huawei is expanding collaborations with popular app developers. The company is offering incentives and developer programs to support AppGallery to compete against the Play Store.

Aside from software, Huawei is one of the top smartphone makers. Despite facing many issues in the supply chain, Huawei kept on using the latest hardware in smartphones.

The new Huawei Mate 50 Pro is a prime example, as it packs a brand XMAGE new camera system and a powerful lens to take high-quality pictures.

On the other hand, Huawei is providing better design and high build quality, which is recognizable as the top trend in the smartphone industry. These traits add a different level of expertise to Huawei’s portfolio and the tech maker has maintained them throughout 2022.
