Huawei has released the January 2023 software update for the Huawei Nova Y90 and Y70 smartphones in the global market, and this firmware clearly improves these phones’ security aspects for a better user experience.

Both Huawei Nova Y90 and Y70 runs EMUI 12 out of the box but it would be interesting if the company could have sent EMUI 13 instead of the security patch. Speaking of which, no one knows, when Huawei will rollout EMUI 13 for global users for the time being.

Coming back to the rollout, January 2023 security update for Huawei Nova Y90 and Nova Y70 comes with EMUI version 12.0.1.177 and EMUI 12.0.1.202. This update is suggested to install on all of the devices sold marketed outside of China and will appear in batches.

We suggest the corresponding users look into the settings > then open System & updates, followed by a Software update, and then tap on CHECK FOR UPDATES.  You can download the latest firmware also from the My Huawei app.

You should know that the update won’t erase your personal data but it is suggested for you back up any important data before updating the device. On the other hand, the package will be deleted automatically once the installation succeeds.

Thanks to the tipster for this amazing information, Masterpiece.

While phone users are waiting for a new major version, Huawei Mate Xs 2 is getting January 2023 EMUI security update alongside the precious Huawei Nova 9 smartphone in the global market.

Huawei Mate Xs 2 is an exceptional smartphone and it is a second-generation outward folding device that made its way to the global market. On the other side, it provides a new user experience than the predecessor.

We’re in February 2023 and Huawei is rolling out new security updates, patches, and optimizations for EMUI smartphones. These devices in the global market are eligible to get the latest upgrades to improve user experience and performance.

As of February, Huawei has completed the EMUI 12 roadmap in all regions and that’s where the users are concerned. Why? Because EMUI 13 release, beta, and roadmap are still missing in action and global users are waiting for this major rollout.

This year, Huawei is delaying more than ever to reveal the details of a new EMUI version, which is frustrating, and for the time being, there’s no clue when it will actually come.

There is a lot of firmware that roll out in a month and below you can check all of the latest Huawei EMUI updates that are rolling out in February 2023.

Huawei EMUI

January 5, 2023:

January 4, 2023:

  • Huawei is expanding January 2023 security update for the Huawei P40 Pro smartphone in Europe, which comes with EMUI version 12.0.0.300. The update has significant advantages over the past and fixes various vulnerabilities for the P40 Pro software system.
  • January 2023 software update is reaching out to more Huawei Mate 40 Pro global users with EMUI 12 and you should know that the firmware build has a 12.0.0.300 version.

How to update:

In order to get the latest software, open the Settings menu on your smartphone and head toward System & updates. We’ve entered the second month of this year and Huawei is still expanding January 2023 EMUI security update for the global P50 Pro. Meanwhile, the wait for EMUI 13 has now become unpredictable for the users.

Huaweiblog reports that Huawei is expanding the reach of the January 2023 software update for P50 Pro global users with EMUI version 12.0.1.290 and it comes with 358 megabytes of OTA package size. The upgrade will bring a new set of security patches for the smartphone.

Similar to the initial rollout, we’ve not noticed any new feature in the changelog. However, the main concern of Huawei smartphone users stands still as EMUI 13 because the phone will be the first to install new firmware.

But the fact is that Huawei has not yet published the EMUI 13 roadmap, which is splitting the views of Huawei smartphone owners.

EMUI 13 comes with a variety of new features that installs a brand new user experience for the consumers. Speaking of which, this software will let you grab a new smart folder with a variable layout, as well as service widgets group and stacking. On the other side, Huawei P50 Pro users will be able to use swipe-up gestures.

All of these features are exciting but we’re still bound to wait as there is no confirmation available on the next EMUI version.

You can download the latest software update via Settings > System & updates > then tap on Software update and follow the on-screen instructions. You can also request a new version via My Huawei app.

Last month, we reported that Huawei Share will get a new feature upgrade and now, it’s finally rolling out for Huawei smartphones and tablets running the HarmonyOS operating system in China. The latest addition is unique as it auto shutdown Huawei Share after 10 minutes.

According to the information, turning on the switch makes your device visible to nearby devices so you can receive files. The switch turns off automatically after 10 minutes, but you can still send files.

Once enabled, Huawei Share will be visible to nearby devices for 10 minutes (reverse countdown). However, it was previously, only a simple switch, which remained enabled until you turn it off manually. Aside from the countdown and automatic switch-off, Huawei has not added any additional capability in Huawei Share.

Huawei Share 10 minutes auto shutdown

Huawei Share lets you share files with nearby Huawei devices, this feature utilizes WiFi to transfer data fast and efficiently. It works across different platforms including smartphones, tablets, and PCs.

To use Huawei share, the user needs to open the control panel and tap on Huawei Share on the receiving end. Now, choose the file to send, and from the sharing option, select Huawei Share, as it will automatically appear on top of the pop-up menu. The transmission only requires you to accept the one-time accept request to share files.

Availability:

Currently, the latest 10 minutes auto shutdown feature for Huawei Share is only available for devices in China. However, it may also roll out for the global models but we don’t have any confirmation on this matter.

Check for updates:

Huawei devices with Chinese firmware need to open Settings > then tap on System & updates, move to Software updates > and CHECK FOR UPDATES. The phone will take a few minutes to complete the download procedure and restart the device. Make sure you follow the on-screen instructions accurately to conduct the installation.

A few days ago, a report appears that the U.S. has decided to put a close on new licenses applied to supply to Huawei including technologies from Qualcomm but the chip seller has confirmed that the recent changes from the U.S. administration won’t impact supply for the tech company.

During the Q1 2023 earning call, Alex Rogers – President, of Qualcomm Technology Licensing (QTL) & Global Affairs said the recent changes made by the U.S. commerce department remain unknown to Qualcomm and the company doesn’t see any significant impact of those new changes in shipment to Huawei.

“So I don’t think it’s fair to characterize it as the latest restrictions on Huawei. What we’ve seen in our news reports the effect that Commerce is considering not issuing new licenses outweighs. And we haven’t heard anything from Commerce itself.” told Alex.

He said, Qualcomm already has licenses for a while, that allow us to ship 4G and other chipsets including Wi-Fi to Huawei. He emphasized that these licenses were issued after the commerce department’s confirmation that these don’t pose any threat to national security.

“Those will continue for some number of years and so within the scope of those licenses we don’t see an impact,” Alex added.

This is quite a big revelation made by the chipset seller. As previous reports revealed the U.S. has barred the export of 4G, Wi-Fi 6, 7, and AI chipset to Huawei under a new strategy.

Still, there are some clouds that need to confirm on this matter because Huawei has already planned its upcoming flagship that will launch this year. This includes P60, Mate X3, and Mate 60 series. Interestingly, all of these will solely use Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ chipsets.

It’s also possible that Huawei could stock a big quantity of Qualcomm chips that could stay in use for an entire year. For now, it’s good news, and we’ll keep you posted on further updates.
