Huawei HarmonyOS 2.1 is coming

It’s now confirmed that the upcoming Huawei P50 standard version will come with HarmonyOS 2.1 operating system, an upgrade over HarmonyOS 2.0. For your information, this phone was launched alongside the Huawei P50 Pro on July 29 but only the Pro version went on sale. On the other hand, the standard Huawei P50 was confirmed to sell in September in China. However, a specific date is not announced at the moment.

Coming back to the topic, the Telecommunication Equipment’s Network Access Managements (TENAA) listing of this phone, shows that the phone will come with pre-installed HarmonyOS 2.1. This is big news from HarmonyOS device owners. Still, the global models remain untouched by HarmonyOS.

Journey to HarmonyOS 2.1:

At Huawei Developer Conference (HDC) 2019, the company unveiled the operating system – HarmonyOS. This OS is based on micro-kernel technology and powered by the distributed capabilities to run cross-device software.

Initially, HarmonyOS 1.0 version only supported smart screens (Smart TVs) but HDC 2019 was the beginning of the roadmap that Huawei has presented on stage.

In the following year, HarmonyOS 2.0 made a grand debut at HDC 2020. This new operating system comes with the support of multiple platforms including the much-awaited – smartphones.

Later in December, HarmonyOS 2 finally began to test on Huawei smartphones and started its journey for the smartphone world. After months of testing, Huawei launched HarmonyOS 2.0 officially for phones and began the rollout.

On July 29, with the Huawei P50 series, the company introduce some of the newest features that enhance the overall user experience as compared to the previous version. These software enhancements later rolled out existing Huawei devices via OTA update.

Huawei P50: Standard version

Huawei P50 sports a 6.5-inch OLED screen with a 2700 x 1224p resolution flat panel, 1.07 billion colors, 90Hz refresh rate, 1440Hz high frame rate, and 300Hz touch sampling rate.

This smartphone expands to 156.5mm x 73.8mm x 7.99mm dimensions and weighs around 181g. This phone only has the Snapdragon 888 4G octa-core processor and is pre-packed with HarmonyOS 2.1 operating system with smart features.

Huawei P50 White

The P50 is equipped with a rear triple camera system consisted of 50MP True Chroma Camera (Color, f/1.8 aperture), a 13MP ultra-wide camera (f/2.2 aperture), 12MP telephoto (f/3.4 aperture, OIS), support AF.  In addition, there are digital, optical, hybrid zooms, and a LED flash.

On the other hand, the front side of the phone has a 13MP selfie camera (wide-angle, f/2.4) that supports image resolution up to 4160 x 3120 pixels. It also supports WiFi connectivity, Bluetooth 5.2, a 4100 mAh battery with 66W SuperCharge, and a USB Type C port.

Looking at the storage system, the P50 standard variant offers 6GB/8GB of RAM and 128 as well as 256GB internal storage. Additionally, it has a fingerprint sensor, gravity sensor, dual SIM slots, IP68 for splash, water, and dust resistance, and more.

First Android 14 Developer Beta announced, launch around HarmonyOS 4

Android 14 is the next software version for the Android ecosystem. On February 8, Google stepped ahead to begin the development of this major upgrade with the first developer beta.

Google has released the roadmap for the development, beta testing, platform stability, and the final release of Android 14, which reveals meet the launch of Huawei HarmonyOS 4 later in the second half of 2023.

The first developer preview is already out for the Pixel devices. However, Google could open early access to other smartphone makers such as OnePlus by April when the open beta campaign kicks off.
