It’s not the first time, we’re talked about HarmonyOS, Android, and iOS, and the differences between and Huawei has listed major benefits of HarmonyOS over the other two operating systems.

According to the image shared by a Weibo tipster, Huawei has listed the key difference between HarmonyOS, iOS, and Android inside its experience store to spread awareness about its operating system and remove confusion.

Below you can check the difference between iOS, Android, and Hongmeng systems listed:

iOS:

The iOS system is a closed-source system developed by Apple, which has relatively high security when downloading software, smooth operation, and simple and beautiful operation of the home screen and app ecosystem.

Disadvantages: The system settings cannot be changed according to the user, and the system compatibility is average.

Android:

Android is an operating system designed based on the Linux macro kernel. There are many devices equipped with Android and a wide range of choices. It has a rich ecosystem, high customization, and good compatibility.

Disadvantages: General security, and open source system brings disadvantages of uncontrollable software APP quality.

Harmony OS:

The HarmonyOS has modularized features, and the microkernel driver enables the system to be disassembled, which reduces the requirements for hardware specifications. Such low requirements allow it to be installed on small devices, such as earphones and smartwatches. HarmonyOS devices can also be connected to each other to achieve a seamless connection.

Disadvantages: The system has been put into use for a short time, and there are currently fewer software developers and system users.

iOS Android HarmonyOS difference

The Chinese tech maker also has a line of tips that would help you to get the most out of software updates:

  • Before upgrading the smartphone, it is recommended for you back up important data.
  • During the upgrade procedure, make sure that the device has enough battery levels.
  • Does the system need to be upgraded related to the current state of the phone.
  • Frequent upgrades are not recommended for smartphones that have been used for a long time and feature low specifications.

There are various claims and reports made on HarmonyOS, connecting this operating system with open source Android but the former head of the Huawei software department has reiterated that HarmonyOS is not a copy of Android or any other software.

During the 2022 China Integrated Circuit Summit last month, Wang Chenglu CEO of Shenzhen Kaihonog Digital Industry Development came up with a keynote speech. The keynote shows the important aspects of the HarmonyOS operating system and the mission of his company.

Interestingly, the former Huawei software chief said HarmonyOS is not Android or iOS and is not certainly a single-device operating system.

Wang mentioned the greatest value of HarmonyOS is to be used on multiple devices, which can share capabilities and use them on different platforms.

HarmonyOS is not Android

Mr. Chenglu emphasized that “In the field of the system software in China, HarmonyOS is the only one that leads all operating systems in the world in terms of technical architecture.”

It’s not the first time, Huawei stated the significance of HarmonyOS and its differentiation from other mobile software.

In 2021, Wang was Software Chief at Huawei Consumer Business Software Department and said HarmonyOS is not an alternative option to respond to US sanctions. It is not a copy of Android, nor it’s a copy of iOS. The software is solely designed for smartphones.

HarmonyOS:

HarmonyOS is a cross-device operating system designed and developed by Huawei and the company first announced this OS in 2019 at the Huawei Developer conference. However, the company introduced this OS for smartphones in the next year.

Right after the unveiling of phones, various sources began labeling HarmonyOS as an Android fork. Thereafter, Huawei published these related statements.

Wang Chenglu:

In 2015, Huawei appointed Wang Chenglu, who was leading the HarmonyOS development for years, and brought it to the HDC 2019 showcase.

In May 2022, Wang left Huawei to join China’s Kaihong Digital, which mainly focuses on the research and development of IoT operating systems.

The fact is that he is researching further on open-source HarmonyOS. Recently it is found that Kaihong is excessively creating projects based on HarmonyOS to use them in products.

Huawei is constantly developing HarmonyOS with unique and innovative features. The non-stop development and evolution of Huawei HarmonyOS hints that it will bring a strong and more powerful ecosystem than Android in the time ahead.

So far, we come across several developments about HarmonyOS and Android. After the U.S. ban, Huawei tried its own way to win the smartphone world.

But, the company didn’t give up and launched its self-developed operating system – HarmonyOS for its consumers. Since its launch, Huawei has made a lot of changes in both features as well as the performance of the HarmonyOS operating system in all aspects, whether it’s for smartphones, home electronics or commercial devices.

As of now, HarmonyOS ranks among the top operating systems for smartphones. As it has already achieved big milestones such as 320+ million installations on Huawei smartphones, tablets, wearables, and other models. On the other hand, there are over 250 million installations in HarmonyOS Connect smart devices.

Alongside devices, more than 2 million developers are making apps for the HarmonyOS ecosystem. The company has also established 2,200 HarmonyOS Connect partnerships and developed 25,030 HMS Core APIs.

Moreover, the company has surpassed the association rate in the global platforms by 80% with 3000 HarmonyOS applications. It’s worth mentioning that approx 40,000 applications of Huawei are trending in the global market.

Android and iOS – Past things!

Looking at the stunning development of the Huawei HarmonyOS ecosystem, it won’t be wrong to say Android and iOS will soon be defeated. And HarmonyOS will easily overtake the two OS in the next 10 years.

Because in this era internet of everything, HarmonyOS will pave a way for a truly connected environment.

In addition, OpenHarmony technologies are pursuing their own goal to establish a lead in the industry. Combined, the HarmonyOS ecosystem is becoming a vast and full-of-benefits platform for both developers and users.

Yu Chengdong’s words:

At the HarmonyOS 2 launch event, Huawei Consumer Business Group CEO and Smart Car BG head – Yu Chengdong said:

“What we provide is not only a product but a new way of life. HarmonyOS is a unified language in the era of the Internet of Things. It surpasses the Android era and is the most powerful in the era of IoT. We will continue to create smart scenarios in the next 10 years.”

Eventually, this is a clear statement that ten years from now will be the ultimate phase in the HarmonyOS ecosystem and the company will add some amazing tweaks to the respective operating system.

Android 13 has revamped Material You no effective notification features, the company has modified every little detail of the Android 13 system.

To be mentioned, Google has finally input the opt-in notification feature in Android 13. As a result, the app will no longer be able to send you notifications. Instead, it will pop up a new dialog box, asking for your permission.

Consequently, this will offer great relief to users. As of now, there will be no unnecessary interruptions of apps and their alerts on your smartphone. This is quite better than the previous updates, where you need to wait until the application sends you a notification to disable it.

Now, no such waits and you can directly turn off the notifications with the first launch of the app. Although, the list of new additions is quite impressive. I think that the company could have improved the Android 13 notification features to some more extent.

Addition of Scheduled Summary

Yes, Scheduled Summary. It’s a well-known iOS feature that collects notifications from preferred applications and shares them at set timings. After getting knowledge about this feature, I believe that Android must bring this tool on its board.

Consequently, Scheduled Summary enables users to cluster the unnecessary alerts from apps and can overview them at a suitable time accordingly. As a result, you don’t have to make extra time from your busy days just to look at the non-urgent notifications.

Android 13 notification features

Different from Do Not Disturb

Are you confused with the term? Well, this is not the usual Do Not Disturb mode. When enabled, the original Do Not Disturb feature cuts off all the calls, alarms, media sounds, and other touch sounds on your phone.

Although, you have the option to schedule the respective feature as per your choice. However, often this feature becomes time-consuming and makes you miss some of the important calls and messages.

But Scheduled Summary is quite different. It only focuses on the app’s notifications and is easy to set along in quick steps. Further, you can use this feature to prevent distractions while at work. For instance, you can add social apps in the Scheduled Summary and can set efficient timings.

Can be added to Android 14

So far, I have been expecting the Scheduled Summary feature with Android 13. However, Google didn’t make any such implementation. Since Android 14 has started appearing in headlines, we could expect that the tech giant will feature this thoughtful tool.

Alternatively, Google can make this feature more efficient. When I was inspecting this feature, I didn’t find specific notification categories in iOS. But Google is having the chance to add some sort of notification type in this feature.

Moreover, with a good passage of time, Google can easily overcome the limitations of the respective feature and can make it more suitable for Android users.

What do you think, is this feature helpful? Or do you want any further additions to the upcoming Android operating system? Let us know in the comment section what new features would you like to see in Android 14.

9. Fixed Notification Issue

The company noticed that a few features are accompanying some issues with the app’s notifications. Alternatively, users were not able to hear any notification sound while they receive a message on the app. At present, the company has fixed that issue completely.

As mentioned, it could happen that some features will not show up immediately after the installation of the latest version. Hence, don’t panic and wait for the next update.

The battery percentage is an essential feature and it’s available on almost all Android and even iOS devices. So today, we’ll take a deep look into the battery percentage icon comparison between Apple’s iOS 16, Google Android 13, Huawei EMUI 12 and HarmonyOS, Samsung One UI 5, Xiaomi MIUI 13, and OnePlus OxygenOS 13.

Battery icon:

A battery percentage is a number (numeric) that allows you to view the accurate battery level on your smartphone. Some phones don’t enable this feature by default.

Comparison:

For this comparison, we’ll look into the appearance, and how the percentage text appears around or inside the battery icon. Also, we’ll look into the additional options that each of these software offers to enhance the user experience.

iOS 16:

The notch on iPhone has forced Apple to oust battery percentage from its mobile software but iOS 16 has brought back this feature ono place. The battery icon is placed in landscape position including percentage text inside the battery icon. Both of these elements change colors into light and dark appearances based on the screen colors. It looks good.

ios 16 battery percentage icon

Android 13:

The stock Android 13 has its own way of showing the battery percentage label on the right side of the battery icon (vertical). Yeah, it looks good. However, there’s no option of showing the battery percent inside the icon.

android 13 battery icon

EMUI 12:

EMUI 12 and HarmonyOS share the same typography for battery labels but there’s a difference between them. EMUI 12 shows the percentage label on the left and HarmonyOS on the right. Also, this two software offer you to show battery-level text either inside the battery icon, on the side, or not at all.

harmonyos 2 battery percentage icon

One UI 5:

Samsung also follows Android’s tradition because One UI also comes with a vertical battery icon but a battery percentage level on the left side. It is a decent look-through.

one ui 5

MIUI 13:

Xiaomi MIUI brings you both options to show percentages inside the icon (landscape) or on the right side. But one thing to mention is that its in-icon battery doesn’t clearly show the label.

MIUI 13

OxygenOS 13:

OxygenOS is quite interesting and comes with more options than any of the above-mentioned contenders to show improve the aesthetics of the battery percentage area.

There are two ways to customize the feature – one for the battery style and battery percentage.

Battery style has:

  1. Horizontal
  2. Vertical
  3. Loop
  4. Do not show

Percentage style:

  1. Inside battery icon
  2. Outside battery icon
  3. Do not show

oxygenos 13

These options make it the most interactive provider of battery percentage settings. However, the appearance still lacks proper visibility for all of the available options.

Winner:

So, which is the winner? It’s iOS 16, followed by HarmonyOS. iOS uses a full-color fill to show the battery percentage inside the icon. Also, the battery icon is a big tall and maintained width as compared to other software. This allows Apple to increase the text size. If the battery level decreases, the battery icon doesn’t decrease the level, which keeps the percentage text visible.

HarmonyOS and EMUI 12 battery percentage visibility is quite good and deserves second place. However, one thing to note is that none of these have a better in-icon label than iOS 16.

A short comparison video shows Huawei HarmonyOS 3 has better and smoother animation than Samsung’s One UI 5.0 and Apple iOS 16 software with a swipe gesture in action.

HarmonyOS 3 is a massive improvement over HarmonyOS 2, as it offers various updates to past features. However, there’s one special specialty of the software that you can never underestimate – animations, which are deeply built into the inner core of the operating system and based on the motion of physics.

Tipster Ice Universe has shared a comparison of UI animation between Huawei Mate 50 Pro, Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, and iPhone 14 Pro. These phones are packed with HarmonyOS 3.0, One UI 5.0, and iOS 16 respectively.

The video shows the swipe-up gesture directly from the home bar, and HarmonyOS 3 is the first to respond against the other software. Also, the animation is pretty fast in HarmonyOS 3 as compared to One UI 5.0 and iOS 16. The smoothness in the start and end curves is also noticeable in the slow motion.

We also want to mention that iOS 16 has kept the same rhythm as HarmonyOS 3 but One UI 5.0 has a very sluggish outcome when it comes to UI animations.

Animations:

Animations are important and they create an intriguing effect on the user experience. Huawei’s self-developed design brings new capability to take full advantage of the hardware and optimizes the software for the best possible use cases.

Apple too has the same advantage over Android phones such as Samsung and iPhones optimizations always keep rocking on the benchmarks.

Similarly, Huawei has started to harness the power of the mobile operating system and make it better for consumers. We also want to note that Samsung does need critical improvements in One UI and it should rise the level if it wants to compete against the best in the industry.

On one hand, Samsung is offering less in the software, while on the other HarmonyOS 3 has boasted so many features ready to explore.

On September 7, Apple introduced iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max, these phones come with a new Dynamic Island feature, which in our find is truly stolen/taken/inspired by Huawei smartphones. How? Let’s find out.

Before we cut to the chase, let’s find out what Dynamic Island actually is.

Apple has outcasted the notch with a new face id module. This head part of the display consists of a pill shape and a single hole punch to house face id sensors and a selfie camera. Then, both of these punch holes are placed inside a maximized pill shape module.

However, Apple has shown its creativity with the introduction of Dynamic Island, which responds when you interact with recent apps, receive notifications, or play music. The face id area now works as a mini taskbar with a bunch of alerts and showcases.

Has Apple stolen the dynamic island feature from Huawei?

On December 26, 2018, Huawei launched Honor View20 AKA Honor V20 smartphone, it was the company’s first phone to feature a hole punch display. To be mentioned, it was one of the first smartphones in the market to come with such a screen design.

apple dynamic island huawei

That’s not it, the company has brought in a new feature Capsule. While on call, the phone generates a capsule or pill shape animation on the right side of the front camera, showing the ongoing call duration.

Furthermore, the feature also reminds users of posture while taking selfies from the front camera. The feature was very smooth and intriguing for the consumers.

Honor V20 is such an example, which launched pre-breakup between Honor and Huawei. However, it shows the significant achievement of the company that has become a sensation for the next-gen iPhone devices.

Yes, we know that Apple has its own way of doing things, and perfecting what Android manufacturers have already achieved in the past but still, it has stolen from Huawei and presented with iPhone 14.
