The Huawei P60 series is currently in the making but the next nova lineup, Nova 11 is also working in the background to equip a new pill shape center hole punch display similar to the iPhone 14

According to the information coming from Weibo tipster Classmateguan, Huawei Nova 11 has started testing with a flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ chipset.

That’s not it, the tipster shared a render, which is photoshopped but reflects the intentions of the tipster to highlight key factors of the upcoming Nova devices.

Huawei Nova 11

According to the image, Huawei Nova 11 Pro could adopt a new pill shape hole punch design placed on the center head of the smartphone. As for now, Huawei has not used such a display design in smartphones.

This design went popular after it was originated in iPhone 14 series and later introduced in various Chinese devices. The wide punch hole is likely to use a dual camera system, one for selfies and another for the depth of field. Also, it could be utilized in the Pro model rather than the standard.

The phone is using flagship Snapdragon 8+ fully unlocked at high frequency, which could contribute to power consumption. Compared to this, Huawei Nova 10 series went on with Snapdragon 778 for Pro and non-Pro variants.

Furthermore, the camera desing has been rearranged, there is a large ring placed on the top, consisting of a main camera. It was followed by two cameras vertically including a periscope camera. To be mentioned, the camera design is cylindrical similar to the Nova 10 lineup.

As a new phone, Huawei will bring up XMAGE imaging technology with Nova 11 devices.

Huawei Nova 20 series:

Ahead of this, tipsters and past reports predicted the phone to be Huawei Nova 20 series but the company has not made any official announcement on this matter, we’ll keep you posted on this matter.

A few days ago, a report appears that the U.S. has decided to put a close on new licenses applied to supply to Huawei including technologies from Qualcomm but the chip seller has confirmed that the recent changes from the U.S. administration won’t impact supply for the tech company.

During the Q1 2023 earning call, Alex Rogers – President, of Qualcomm Technology Licensing (QTL) & Global Affairs said the recent changes made by the U.S. commerce department remain unknown to Qualcomm and the company doesn’t see any significant impact of those new changes in shipment to Huawei.

“So I don’t think it’s fair to characterize it as the latest restrictions on Huawei. What we’ve seen in our news reports the effect that Commerce is considering not issuing new licenses outweighs. And we haven’t heard anything from Commerce itself.” told Alex.

He said, Qualcomm already has licenses for a while, that allow us to ship 4G and other chipsets including Wi-Fi to Huawei. He emphasized that these licenses were issued after the commerce department’s confirmation that these don’t pose any threat to national security.

“Those will continue for some number of years and so within the scope of those licenses we don’t see an impact,” Alex added.

This is quite a big revelation made by the chipset seller. As previous reports revealed the U.S. has barred the export of 4G, Wi-Fi 6, 7, and AI chipset to Huawei under a new strategy.

Still, there are some clouds that need to confirm on this matter because Huawei has already planned its upcoming flagship that will launch this year. This includes P60, Mate X3, and Mate 60 series. Interestingly, all of these will solely use Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ chipsets.

It’s also possible that Huawei could stock a big quantity of Qualcomm chips that could stay in use for an entire year. For now, it’s good news, and we’ll keep you posted on further updates.

Despite recent changes, Huawei is likely to use sufficient Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset for upcoming smartphones including Nova 20 Pro, Mate X3, and P60.

According to the inputs coming from Weibo tipster, Wangzai, Huawei Nova 20 Pro, Mate X3, and Huawei P60 will use Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset. That suggests the 8+ Gen 1 will be popular this year.

Snapdragon 8+ is produced with TSMC’s 4nm process. The frequency of the CPU and GPU is 10% higher than that of the previous generation’s flagship Snapdragon platform, and the power consumption is reduced by 30%.

So, we come down to the conclusion that this processor will use frequency change in all of these three devices. Input suggests that Huawei Nova 20 Pro uses a low-frequency version of Snapdragon 8+, while the main core is set for 3.0 GHz and the standard frequency is 3.2GHz.

Compared to the flagship version, the mid-range or low-to-high-end version of Snapdragon 8+ brings advantages such as better battery life. For example, the Honor 80 series has controlled frequency and provide good performance.

Huawei Nova 20 Pro Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1

No Gen 2 in the P60 series?

So, Huawei is not using Snapdragon 8+ Gen 2 in the P60 series? The answer to this question is currently unconfirmed. As tipsters have confirmed that the is only P60, which may raise hope for a high-end Snapdragon chip.

Past information reveals that Huawei Nova 20 series will launch around May of this year and will have two models – Nova 20 and Nova 20 Pro. Looking past the generations, Huawei Nova 10 lineup featured Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G octa-core chip. It uses 4 × Cortex-A78 at 2.4 GHz + 4 × Cortex-A55 at 1.8 GHz architecture.

It’s possible that the Nova 20 Pro version is chosen for Snapdragon 8+ and the standard Nova 20 chose to remain on Snapdragon mid-range chipset. As for now, there are no additional details available about the Nova 20 series parameters. But there’s a lot to know and we’ll keep you posted.

The U.S. wants to impose further restrictions on Huawei to completely cut off the supply chains including the goods from Qualcomm and Intel. We could just call it the latest addition to the U.S. administration’s obsession with Huawei.

Reuters reports that the U.S. Government under Joe Biden has come up with a new policy of denial to sell items to Huawei. The list of denial now goes beyond 5G to cover products for 4G, WiFi 6, WiFi 7, A.I., and high-performance cloud computing and cloud items.

A person familiar with the matter revealed that the Biden administration wants to tighten its grip on Huawei and the reversing the approval of 4G chip technology transfer. However, these chips were also approved under the early office of Biden himself.

Back in 2019, the former U.S. president ordered to put Huawei into the so-called Entity List, which bans other companies from selling their goods to Huawei. This led to massive outages in Huawei’s supply chain, as the intent was to empty Huawei from all of its tech access.

So, It lost Google mobile services, 5G chipset, and other crucial components used in telecom products. These sanctions didn’t have effect immediately but the U.S. government staged them to check the impact on the Chinese tech maker.

Qualcomm and intel are one of these companies that were approved to ship their chip to Huawei. Thereafter, Huawei continues to use Qualcomm chips in its all products whether its flagship, mid-range, or tablet device. Therefore, the U.S. likely come upfront to cut Qualcomm and Intel from Huawei.

For the time being, reports are colliding that the latest decision has been made, while a few suggest that the decision is under discussion. Either way, it’s a decision made by a government sitting in a fantasy land and licking a fantasy popsicle.

Huawei Fantasy?

Why not? The U.S. banned Huawei out of nowhere, and the U.S. government puts a ban on Huawei every year to showcase in the name of protecting U.S. citizens, while it’s just a matter of some headlines that come after such a step.

The U.S. administration thinks that attacking Huawei means attacking China, while the U.S. continues to ship a large number of technologies to many big Chinese smartphone makers. Would, the U.S. also consider cutting ties with them as well, it won’t be a matter of national security.

Truth be told, Huawei is the only company that dominated both the network and smartphone market, and there’s an old saying “When you can’t beat the odds change the game”. Odds have always been in favor of Huawei but the U.S. is continuously changing the game since 2019. But the question is, for how long?

We’re about to complete 2022 and it was a tough year for Huawei but it was also an important one for the Chinese smartphone maker in every aspect whatsoever.

This year, Huawei skipped the Huawei P60 series launch event, which used to happen in the first quarter. However, the issues were related to a scrambled supply chain. After the events of the 2019 U.S. blacklisting, Huawei was under tight scrutiny and facing severe challenges in the supply chain.

Hence, components such as smartphone chipsets became hard to organize for new Huawei devices. In 2022, Huawei readjusted around the current business with Qualcomm and used 4G chips in the latest smartphones.

Since Huawei can no longer print HiSilicon chipsets via chipmakers such as TSMC, the company is relying more on Qualcomm and less on Kirin. The beginning was difficult but Huawei later assured sufficient Snapdragon supplies.

GMS:

Google Mobile Services and Play Store have been a big matter of concern for new smartphone buyers. This year, most consumers knew that Huawei phones no longer support Google apps. On the other hand, customers could now easily determine whether to buy a Huawei phone without any confusion.

EMUI and HarmonyOS:

2022 has proven to be a major year in EMUI and HarmonyOS software rollout history and it brings you the latest features. However, the latest version is yet to rollout for old phones.

Smartwatch and wearables:

Other than smartphones, Huawei is focusing on all of the smart consumer platforms such as tablets, smartwatches, and earbuds. The company continues to innovate for a better user experience and launch new products.

Signs of return:

Progress leads toward a positive state and the progress made over the past year is crucial from all angles. To understand, Huawei is gradually returning shipment records in the Chinese market. A place, where Huawei ruled supreme before the U.S. ban.

2022 was a tough year, the move in market share is gradual but the positive numbers for Huawei are encouraging and it laid out a good foundation for 2023.

A Chinese information and communication technology academy released a report on Global Wi-Fi 6 technology innovation and standard 2022 and Huawei is revealed to be a leader in this Wi-Fi version along with Qualcomm.

Patent data and analysis are based on the data compiled throughout the year including legal status, layout region, patentee, and technology to demonstrate global Wi-Fi 6 innovation activities and development trends.

The researcher pointed out that the evaluation results show that among the 2,115 Wi-Fi 6-related patent families retrieved and evaluated (published before July 2021), 606 were evaluated as Wi-Fi 6 standard-essential patent families.

Among them, companies with the largest holdings include Qualcomm, Huawei, Intel, LG, Marvell/NXP, MediaTek, Broadcom, and ZTE. The total number of Wi-Fi 6 standard-essential patent families of the above-mentioned eight companies exceeds 90% of the number of Wi-Fi 6 standard-essential patent families assessed this time.

From these Wi-Fi 6 leaders, Qualcomm ranked first, accounting for 20.46%, and Huawei ranked second, accounting for 20.30%. From a technical point of view, frame structure design, preamble design, and OFDMA are the most deployed technical directions.

Judging from the time distribution of 606 family patents, before the IEEE started the standardization work of 802.11ax (Wi-Fi 6) in 2013, enterprises had already started the pre-research work of the Wi-Fi 6 standard and laid out a small number of Wi-Fi 6 standard requirements. patent.

After 2013, while enterprises actively participated in standard formulation, they also concentrated on the deployment of Wi-Fi 6 standard essential patents, and the number of applications reached a peak in 2015, and then began to decrease year by year.

Among the 3,564 Wi-Fi 6 valid patents/patent applications in the 606 families, the number of applications in the United States ranked first, accounting for 31.9%; the number of applications in China ranked second, accounting for 14.9%.

Japan’s patent applications accounted for 13.7%, 8.7%, and 8.2% respectively. Another 22.6% of patents are distributed in 33 other countries or regions around the world, among which Brazil, Canada, and Australia are the most distributed countries.

The Mate 50 series has brought new life to the Huawei smartphone ecosystem. And in 2023, Huawei will also resume two flagship launch tradition, reveals a supply chain report.

According to the industry supply chain report (via mydrivers), Huawei has two flagship launch events in 2023. These two flagship unveilings will happen on time. It also mentions that these two flagships are Huawei P60 and Mate 60 series and could launch around March and September respectively.

More on this, these models will be powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon chipsets. But Huawei is still bound to use 4G network access and may not bring 5G.

If the sales volume goes according to the expectation, Huawei could launch new premium phones among consumers. Meanwhile, there’s no information available on the phone’s features or names.

Data generated by smartphone market researchers report that Huawei’s smartphone sales reached 8.6 million in the third quarter of this year. It’s a 48.3% on-year increase and a quarter-on-quarter increase of 34.4 percent. This is a massive improvement for the tech maker.

Moreover, the sharp rise is contributed by the launch of the Huawei Mate 50 series, which offers a variety of new features for the users and allures them with new aesthetics. The success of the Huawei Mate 50 series has seemingly brought a new motivation for the Chinese tech maker.

Despite this massive revelation, Huawei has not confirmed any of this information via the official channel, as we’re still far away from the launch season.

Dual flaghip:

Until 2020, Huawei was launching dual flaghip each year. In the first half, there was a tradition to unveil a P series phone and in the second half, there was a Mate flaghip.

After the chip crisis, Huawei’s supply chain crumbled and the company had a tough time gathering components to build new devices. Thereafter, Huawei had to launch one flagship phone per year. Hence, we saw the Huawei P50 series alone in 2021 and Mate 50 series in 2022.

But the challenges are worth the time ahead, as Huawei is planning to return to full-on flaghip mode in 2023.

We’re about to enter 2023, and Huawei may still launch 4G smartphones throughout the next year. This may upset some of the consumers, who would like to use the phones in 5G mode.

Input coming from a well-known Weibo tipster reveals that Huawei flagships next year will have the latest chipset technologies but there’s no possibility of a 5G return.

On the other hand, the tipster also predicts no rebirth for the Kirin chip as well. Therefore, the Huawei P60 series will be using Qualcomm chipsets onboard. However, it would still be a 4G device.

The tipster further commemorates that the Chinese tech maker will continue to operate in survival mode. Yet, that won’t be stopping Huawei from launching new technologies to remain competitive in the industry.

As for now, Huawei has launched P50 and Mate 50 series with 4G Snapdragon chipsets. The tech maker is especially accessing these 4G processors from Qualcomm’s chip inventory.

Throughout this year, Huawei only launched 4G smartphones and it’s due to the lack of the important RF component. These are required to enable 5G signals on the SoC and are still out of the reach of the company.

In 2019, Huawei was blacklisted by the U.S. government, thereafter, it cannot print new mobile processors. Therefore, Huawei is hugely relying on third-party chip producers such as Qualcomm.

The lack of important components has caused Huawei big in the 5G smartphone market. As it cannot enable this feature on its phones, even in flaghip models.

But Huawei is developing new technologies to install better network assistance. This is done via better WiFi and signal hardware, in which, Huawei has been the best in the world.

Still, there’s no official or concrete evidence that Huawei will leave us empty-handed next year but we’ll have to follow the story to know more on this matter.

From the launch of the Huawei P50 series, Huawei has been largely invested in Qualcomm Snapdragon chipsets. The change in strategy came after the Chinese tech maker consumed most of its Kirin inventory. Since the company cannot print new chipsets, Huawei had to rely on Qualcomm to launch phones, which is likely to continue in 2023.

It’s expected that Huawei will continue to use the Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset for all of the devices launching in 2023. This will lead us to flaghip devices that will enter first in the arena.

For example, Huawei is preparing two flagship devices in the first quarter. First is the Huawei Mate X3 foldable phone and second is the Huawei P60 series.

As per the past report, Huawei could use Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset on the Mate X3, and the chip configurations for the P60 series remain unknown. However, it’s possible for the phone maker to arrange a Gen 2 model hand.

Other than these, Huawei also has mid-range devices such as Nova 11 or probably Nova 20 series that will also require to use of Qualcomm chipset. Later on, the home ground special, the Huawei Enjoy series is also in the queue to present a new model.

Furthermore, Huawei will close the year with the new Huawei Mate series flaghip, which is also predicted to be powered by a Qualcomm chip. Meanwhile, there are also some models that could launch in between these schedules in any category.

Usecase:

As compared to last year, 2022 is filled with Qualcomm chipsets and Huawei has launched various smartphones including Huawei Mate 50 and Nova 10 series with the latest Snapdragon mobile processors. That’s not it, the chipset powered the latest Huawei Pocket S flip-style foldable with cheap pricing.

The absence of Kirin has brought in new cooperation between Qualcomm and Huawei, which will continue to expand throughout 2023.
