Android 14 is the next software version for the Android ecosystem. On February 8, Google stepped ahead to begin the development of this major upgrade with the first developer beta.

Google has released the roadmap for the development, beta testing, platform stability, and the final release of Android 14, which reveals meet the launch of Huawei HarmonyOS 4 later in the second half of 2023.

The first developer preview is already out for the Pixel devices. However, Google could open early access to other smartphone makers such as OnePlus by April when the open beta campaign kicks off.

As mentioned by the Android company, Android 14 is projected to reach platform stability by the end of July. But there’s still a possibility of these milestone timelines to delay, similar to last year.

Open source HarmonyOS, OpenHarmony is making good progress in the Chinese smartphone market and its open source capability is allowing people to experiment on old non-Huawei and low specs devices, such as Xiaomi Mi 6.

An OpenHarmony developer uploaded a video on the Chinese video-sharing platform Bilibili and showed how he ported OpenHarmony onto a Mi 6 smartphone. Interestingly, the OpenHarmony boot up successfully.

The developer didn’t reveal much of the information but confirmed that the touch unit didn’t work up, while the home screen has been loaded successfully.

HarmonyOS Xiaomi Mi 6

The developer also shared a guide to port OpenHarmony old devices.

To confirm that the ported device can be unlocked and flashed and it has a third-party recovery similar to TWRP to facilitate flashing. The OpenHarmony kernel is based on the standard Linux 5.10 kernel, and 4.19 is no longer supported. During the installation, the device needs to have the kernel source code of 5.10 or above, the developer needs to confirm that the device driver source code and firmware can be obtained, and related stuff.

In addition, to open-source HarmonyOS, Xiaomi Mi 6 phones have previously supported flashing into the Windows 11 ARM system.

Launched in 2017, Mi Phone 6 is equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset, a 5.15-inch 1080p resolution, 4/6GB RAM + 64/128GB storage. It has a built-in 3350mAh battery, It supports 18W fast charging.

Huawei is preparing to launch a new version of HarmonyOS, on the other hand, the open-source HarmonyOS, OpenHarmony has released a new beta 5 version OpenHarmony 3.2.

Recently, Huawei updated Push Notifications service management guidelines for app developers to help them provide users with a better notification user experience and effectively apply push notification service to apps without violating the guidelines.

The updated Huawei Push notifications service guidelines include the “Category of Violations, Violations, and Penalties for Violations” as the following:

First violation: email warning. If the rectification is not completed within 7 natural days, it will be punished as a second violation.

Second violation: Suspend the application for sending information and marketing messages for 30 natural days. If the rectification is not completed within 7 natural days, it will be punished as three violations. Three or more violations: Suspend the app from using the Huawei push channel for 90 natural days.

Huawei Push notifications

Below you can check all of the violations of the notification style, notification redirection, notification content, and notification classification rules, affecting user experience:

  • Forge other applications to push messages, including forging application names, icons, message content, etc.
  • App notifications hide the app’s own name and icon.
  • The application divides the push messages of the same application into groups.
  • Notifications using custom styles that do not conform to the spec.
  • Send an image that doesn’t meet the specs.
  • Forcibly push the notification to the top without authorization.
  • Notifications cannot be deleted directly with one click.
  • Fake banner notifications, lock screen notifications.
