Despite a long-standing issue with its changelog, Google keeps on sending new and multiple Play Store versions to Android users including the 34.0.13, which recently began to release.

Google Play Store 34.0.13 is currently in the expansion stage for Android devices and it may take some to reach all of the users.

Purchase approval:

Earlier this week, Google added a new parent control feature to Play Store that will allow parents to add purchase approval for their children.

According to the information, the feature will allow children to send a purchase request for the family manager account to approve it. Similar to app notification and the parent could then choose whether to approve it or not.

The approval covers paid apps and in-app purchases. Once received, the family manager could tap on the notification to process the payment request. The payment could be made through on-screen payment options as well as Google Play gift cards. In addition, you can check all of the histories in the section.

Real users and bots:

There is input that Google is working on a new way for developers to provide important information to users to detect whether it is run by a bot or a human.

Mishaal Rahman said that Google Play will execute this task by releasing a signal that helps to detect between “likely genuine” and likely non-genuine” traffic based on the presence and volume of Google Play Store activity.

We can simply call it an automated AI based approach to detect activity based on the usage data of a regular Play Store user. However, there’s no official information available from Google on this matter.

Changelog:

There was a change that recently appeared on the Play Store web version, such as the disappearance of the changelog of listed apps.

However, the changelogs are back in their place, as if they were never removed.

Google Play Store has been causing some unlawful trouble for Android users in the US. As per the input revealings, the company is alleged by the California lawsuits of preserving forbidden Play Store rules and disobeying US anti-competition laws.

The story begins in July this year. The major authorities of 36 states sued the US tech maker. Accordingly, the authorities claimed that Google puts pressure on the developers for opting the Play Store practices irrespective of their convenience.

In addition, many app developers reported that Google forces them to use the Play Store in-app purchase system which cost 30% commission. Consequently, these steps keep Google far away from the market competition.

Thus, Google alleged for following illegal marketing concepts and creating trouble for Android users with Play Store rules. In the latest edition, the California lawsuits have proceeded with this matter as a consumer class action of 21 million individuals.

For your information, a class action is a type of regulation where a large number of people takes legal action against the same problem. Here, the class action consists of Android users of 12 US states including Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands.

Eventually, this class action sought out damage of 4.7 billion USD. Meanwhile, California judge James Donato said in an order [PDF] that the company has halted the legal common practices for the tech makers in the market which leads to anti-competitive business.

Google denies the allegations

Significantly, Google kept its points in front of the lawmen and denied the allegations. The company said that they are working under legal rules and regulations without harming users’ concerns.

“We’re evaluating the ruling and after that, we’ll assess our options.”

It’s worth mentioning that Google has rolled out the user billing system to comfort developers worldwide. With this feature, developers can utilize their own in-app purchase system without making a share in the Play Store. However, the respective feature has still some time to come into effective usage.

Google has announced the expansion of Play Store user billing alternatives test in the US and other markets. Eventually, the company mentioned that third-party apps can actively participate in this beta activity.

To those who are unaware, user choice billing enables Android app developers to use their own payment systems instead of Google’s. As a result, developers no more need Google’s in-built system to hold payment actions in their apps.

To be specific, users will have the choice to either use the Google Play Store’s in-app purchasing system or the developer’s payment system while buying in-app content (in supported countries).

The tech maker initiated the user choice billing beta tests in September. At that time, the company rolled out the pilot stage in Australia, EEA (European Economic Area), India, Indonesia, and Japan.

After the fruitful outcomes, Google Play Store has pushed off the user choice billing test in the US, Brazil, and South Africa. Alongside this, the latest expansion will make the user choice billing available in 35 regions worldwide.

Spotify – the first pilot tester

Further, Google informed that Spotify is the first third-party app that has begun billing alternative testing. Thereafter, the Bumble application also joined this recruitment process.

After the stable implementation, Android users will catch a new user interface on Spotify and other apps. This user interface will permit users to choose how they want to pay for monthly or other subscription packages.

Google Play Store billing US

Requirements:

On the other hand, developers who want to adopt the user choice billing system in their applications, need to follow some major guidelines of Google. As per these regulations, developers must show separate screens for the billing options.

Further, the billing screen must be visible before every purchase. Aside, developers must fulfill the below-given requirements:

  • Your app must be a non-gaming mobile or tablet app
  • The developer must be a registered business
  • Implement trust and safety requirements, and user experience guidelines when available
  • Only offer user choice billing to mobile and tablet users in announced pilot countries
  • Comply with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI-DSS) (if handling credit and debit card data)

To get more detailed information about these guidelines, click HERE.

According to Google’s words, this is just the beginning and the company will continue to expand the new billing alternative testing in more regions in the time ahead.

On October 2022, Dr. Jaime Gonzalo, VP of Consumer Mobile Services Europe at Huawei, people from the global gaming industry were given insight into how they could achieve an improved return on their considerable investment in new and existing games to boost AppGallery for game distributions.

In the past few years, AppGallery is becoming a popular platform for games as it serves millions of monthly active users with new and existing gaming apps. Up until today, AppGallery now lists games from some leading titles such as PUBG Mobile, Mobile legends, Free Fire, State of Survival, and more. Hence, Huawei continues to work on the games section for AppGallery users to enrich its user engagement.

“Games developers are finding it increasingly difficult to reach new audiences. The major challenge is that customer acquisition cost has increased significantly over the years due to market saturation and inflated pricing. That’s why alternative app platforms such as AppGallery are emerging and playing their part to provide developers with improved revenue-generating opportunities,” said Jaime Gonzalo”.

Huawei appgallery games

Currently, 99.9% of apps downloaded via the leading app distribution platforms are losing users monthly, pushing the costs of retention higher and higher.

Gonzalo pointed out that AppGallery currently has 580 million global monthly active users, 45 million of which are in Europe. Outside China, AppGallery has increased in-app revenue by 3x year-on-year, casual game growth has increased by 20x over the same period, and monthly ad revenue for developers has doubled.

“We have a high spending audience,” Gonzalo told the Pocket Gamer audience. “In countries like Germany the ARPPU is $200, in the UK the average is $159 while in Poland it is $100, and this is coupled with very low developer effort. Existing Android games can be ready to onboard to AppGallery in just a few minutes. We also support every game with solutions, promotions, and developer kits, which accelerate distribution and boost revenue numbers.”
